The town nurse provides blood pressure screening and blood glucose screening clinics at the Sudbury Senior Center on Tuesdays. These screening are available for all Sudbury residents regardless of age. Clinics are Tuesdays, 8AM to 9AM and 12 noon to 1PM.
The town nurse also provides flu clinics for seniors and town employees every fall and can administer vaccines at Parmenter VNA for folks who miss the clinics. Flu and pneumonia vaccine is free for people over 65 or considered to be high risk. There is also tuberculosis screenings for those people requiring such screenings for work.
The town nurse can provide home visits for flu vaccine for those frail elders who cannot get to the clinic.
The town nurse works with the school nurses and the Mass Dept of Public Health to track contagious diseases and protect the public health. The town nurse provides education to prevent disease and promote health by offering seminars at the senior center and other locations.
Working with the town social workers, the town nurse also can make occasional home visits to check on frail residents.
The town nurse is also involved in disaster preparedness as a member of the Sudbury Citizens Emergency Response Team.
