This
was the site of the town's first three meeting houses. You'll note that
you're now in Wayland which was where the Sudbury Plantation was first established
and incorporated. Sudbury established a church west of the river in 1754.
The town they left was re-named East Sudbury and later Wayland. Dwelling
houses were built along a north-south highway that stretched in both directions
from the meeting house. The gravestones lying flat to the ground are called
"Wolf Stones" and placed there to keep wolves and other animals
from disturbing the graves. Find the meeting house site. It's marked. (Route
27, Wayland)
